REY GAROFANO (she/her)
Rey holds a deep personal commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and has engaged in community projects over the last decade to promote racial equity and inclusion in and around Essex. Rey was born in Iran and immigrated to California in the ’80s and her lived experiences as a Middle Easterner with a multi-national, multi-racial family give her a unique perspective on DEI work.
Currently, Rey is the Child Care Quality Program Administrator at the Child Development Division (CDD) within the Department for Children and Families (DCF) at the State of Vermont. Rey was appointed to lead the CDD Racial Equity Workgroup and was selected to participate in the DCF Racial Equity Workgroup working on implementing department-wide policies that address systemic racism. Rey also serves on the board of Voices for Inclusion in Essex and Westford (VIEW), a community group working to create events and opportunities for Essex and Westford residents that allow for all voices to be heard and understood.
Rey holds a certificate in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Workplace from the University of South Florida, Muma College of Business, and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Champlain College. Rey was appointed to the Vermont House of Representatives to represent Essex in 2022 and is currently serving her second term in the Vermont House.
