Reese is a sociologist, consultant, and published scholar on queer and trans topics. He is the CEO and founder of Embodied Values, a business that helps individuals, communities, and organizations heal and transform in order to be better aligned with their core values. Dr. Kelly provides intentionally and uniquely crafted services to his clients that include diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) strategy, training, and facilitation, organizational assessment, inclusive leadership development, and more. He has 20 years of experience in higher education and DEIB work, most recently serving as the Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs, Equity and Inclusion at Champlain College.
Dr. Kelly's research on institutional and interpersonal discrimination against transgender people led him into equity and inclusion work with healthcare professionals and organizations. In his consulting work as an Affiliate of Batista Consulting Services, Dr. Kelly and his colleagues provided DEIB strategy, leadership development, organizational assessment, and DEIB training to over 650 employees (executive, clinical, and non-clinical) at St. John's Episcopal Hospital. He has presented at the Transforming NH Healthcare Summit, the Philadelphia Trans Health Conference, and the Introduction to Transgender Medicine Conference, given class lectures for several cohorts of master's students in the Healthcare Delivery program at The Dartmouth Institute, and delivered a grand rounds lecture for Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center's Department of Gynecology. From 2018-2019, Dr. Kelly served as a founding member and patient advocate on the Gynecology Trans Healthcare Pathway project for the Department of Gynecology at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center (Lebanon, NH) where he worked with doctors, nurses, interns, and administrative staff to identify and rectify gaps in care for trans men and non-binary patients. Additionally, Dr. Kelly co-authored the chapter "Limiting Transgender Health: Administrative Violence and Microaggressions in Health Care Systems" with Sonny Nordmarken, Ph.D. published in Health Care Disparities and the LGBT Population, based on their respective research findings.
Dr. Kelly identifies as a white, queer, neurotypical trans man born and raised in the middle-class suburbs outside of Detroit, MI.
